Words Of Truth

"That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth..." (Proverbs 22:21).

There Are Things That Can Change Your Perspective

I. Introduction:

A. By the word perspective I mean: “a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view” (New Oxford American Dictionary).

  1. If you perceive something to be right because you want it to be, that matters (Proverbs 12:15 and Proverbs 16:25).
  2. On the other hand, if you perceive something to be wrong because you want it to be, that matters too (Acts 4:1-17).
B. Before we proceed in our lesson, understand this - Our point of view does not change the fact that God’s word is the truth (Psalms 119:151-152 and John 17:17).

  1. You’re not right. I am not right. God’s word is right (Psalms 33:4).
  2. Our experiences in life do not change what God has said (Psalms 119:89 and Matthew 24:35).

II. Body: This Lesson Is About How Your Point Of View [NOT TRUTH] Can Change Based On Certain Factors. Ex. Being Hungry Can Change How Something Tastes (Proverbs 27:7). Let’s Consider This Fact In A Cautionary Way.

A. Think about someone who loves treasure (Matthew 6:24).

What if that person is told to abandon wealth (Luke 18:18-25)?
  1. How deceived are they (Revelation 3:14-19)?
  2. So, how might your point of view change if you began to love wealth (I Timothy 6:6-10)?
B. What if you view something as madness, or off in some other way, when it is your perception that is off (Acts 24:1-5 and Acts 26:24-29)?

  1. If I think of a group as a sect [heresies]… (Galatians 5:19-21).
  2. If I consider words to be mad… (Ecclesiastes 10:12-13).
C. Now, understand also that there are positive ways in which one can benefit from a change in a point of view to further understand truth.

  1. Think about why elders have to be parents before they can shepherd God’s people (I Timothy 3:4-5).
  2. Think about why the experienced women are to teach the younger (Titus 2:3-5).
  3. Think about how Peter, after helping to convert the first gentiles (Acts 10:1-48), then had a better point of view on the baptism of the Holy Ghost and salvation for the Gentiles (Acts 11:12-17).

III. Conclusion: Be careful in allowing your point of view to change. Make sure it is for the better and not the worse. Be cautious with what changes your perspective (Galatians 4:17-18).
