The Foundation Of God Standeth Sure
I. Introduction:
A. As times appear to get worse and worse, as was the case even in the first century (II Timothy 3:13), it can be easy to fear what will become of God’s people.
- What about the feeling Elijah had (I Kings 19:10)?
- What about the days of Micah (Micah 7:1-7)?
B. When fears arise, trust becomes important (Psalms 56:3).
- If I trust in God as an obedient believer, I know I am not on the losing side (Romans 8:35-39 and I Corinthians 15:50-57).
- If I trust in God as an obedient believer, I know however bleak things may seem (i.e. Luke 18:8), I must not waver (Hebrews 10:23).
II. Body: II Timothy 2:14-19
A. Let’s think about the foundation (I Corinthians 3:11 and Ephesians 2:20-22).
- Death could not stop Jesus from establishing the church (Matthew 16:13-18).
- Death could not stop Jesus from being Lord (Romans 14:9).
- Death will be stopped by Jesus as He is our foundation (I Corinthians 15:16-28).
B. The church, in the sense of the whole; the kingdom (Hebrews 12:22-23), will never be moved (Hebrews 12:28-29).
- Even after this present world ends (II Peter 3:10-14), the kingdom is everlasting (II Peter 1:11).
- Such is the inheritance of the faithful (Matthew 25:31-34).
- Such is why our citizenship [conversation; KJV] is in heaven (Philippians 3:20-21).
C. The remnant principle (Romans 11:1-5).
- During heavy times of past apostasies, we see there was a remnant (Isaiah 1:1-9).
- The remnant is not supposed to just sit and wait (Isaiah 37:31-32).
- Noah did not count being among the few as a disadvantage. His faith moved him (Hebrews 11:7).
III. Conclusion: We need to be like Abraham. Knowing who the builder is, we must trust the sure foundation enough to move with unwavering faith (Hebrews 11:8-10).
