First Peter Two Twenty-Four-Twenty-Five
Words Of Truth

Words Of Truth

"That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth..." (Proverbs 22:21).

First Peter 2:24-25
Returned To The Shepherd Through What He Did On The Cross

I. Introduction:

A. If you are in Christ, you know that sin separates an individual from a relationship with God (Isaiah 59:1-3).

  1. Such a separation that even your prayers are not heard (I Peter 3:12).
  2. That is because God does not have fellowship with those in the darkness (I John 1:5-6).
B. God made a clear statement about who can be a Savior (Isaiah 43:11).

  1. Thus, our Savior was sent into the world (Titus 3:3-5 and I John 4:14).
  2. As Gentiles (I Peter 2:9-10), they know how necessary it was for Jesus to come into this world (Ephesians 2:1-17).

II. Body: I Peter 2:24-25

A. Jesus was once offered to bear the sins of many (Hebrews 9:28).

  1. The word translated “bare” or “bear” is also translated “offered up”, “offer”, and “offered” (Hebrews 7:27, Hebrews 13:15, James 2:21, and I Peter 2:5).
  2. Jesus was offered, not by force, as the sacrifice for our sins (Ephesians 5:2).
  3. Jesus did what sacrifices under the Law of Moses could not do (Romans 8:1-3 and Hebrews 10:1-18).
  4. As prophesied, He was the sin offering (Isaiah 53:10).
  5. On the tree [timber] (Acts 5:30, Acts 10:39, and Acts 13:29).
  1. Yes, the Bible says a cross (John 19:19 and Colossians 2:14).
  2. Why anyone argues over this is insane. Jesus was nailed (John 20:25) to something wooden (Strong’s # 3586).
B. For Christians to be dead to sins (Romans 6:11).

  1. Of which we had a part in as well (Romans 6:3-7). *This is just ONE of many things we do in our part of being saved (i.e. Matthew 28:18-20).
  2. Being dead to sin is NOT to continue to sin (Romans 6:1-2).
C. To live unto righteousness (Romans 6:13).

  1. In Christ, we are new creatures (II Corinthians 5:17) having had our sins forgiven (Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:12-14, and I John 2:12).
  2. Very simple - righteousness is on you after you have been made dead to sin and alive in Christ (I John 2:29 and I John 3:7).
D. Healed by His wounds (John 19:34 and Revelation 1:5).

  1. Peter already covered this (I Peter 1:18-19).
  2. Jesus’ blood was shed for the remission of sins (Matthew 26:28).
E. “Were as” [simile] sheep going astray (cf. Psalms 119:176).

  1. Jesus’ perspective while He was on earth (Matthew 9:35-38).
  2. The Shepherd’s mindset towards even just one lost sheep (Luke 15:1-7).
F. Returned to the Shepherd and Bishop of your soul (I Peter 5:1-4).

  1. We have a great shepherd (Hebrews 13:20).
  2. He is the good Shepherd that laid down His life for His sheep (John 10:1-18).
