First Peter One Verses Twenty-Three-Twenty-Five
Words Of Truth

Words Of Truth

"That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth..." (Proverbs 22:21).

First Peter 1:23-25
Rebirth Through The Gospel

I. Introduction:

A. We are going to be talking about being “born again” (John 3:1-7).

  1. We know there is physical birth and physical death (Ecclesiastes 3:2).
  2. We will be discussing spiritual birth in this lesson, which is possible because of Jesus (John 1:1-17).
B. The need for rebirth exists because of what sin does to a person spiritually (Ephesians 2:1-5 and Colossians 2:13).

  1. Being spiritually dead applies to apostate saints too (I Timothy 5:6).
  2. For further related considerations, see: Matthew 8:21-22, Luke 15:11-24, II Corinthians 5:14-15, and Galatians 4:19

II. Body: I Peter 1:23-25

A. Those addressed in this letter were born again [begotten again] (I Peter 1:3).

  1. Begotten by the word of God (I Corinthians 4:15 and James 1:18-27).
  2. This is “the seed” from which we are spiritually born (I John 3:9).
B. The word of God is the incorruptible [“undecaying (in essence or continuance): - not (in-, un-) corruptible, immortal”; (Strong’s # 862)] seed (Psalms 119:89).

  1. The seed of man is not eternal (II Samuel 14:14, Job 14:1, and Hebrews 9:27).
  2. The seed of God, His word, is eternal (Isaiah 40:6-8 and Matthew 24:35).
C. All flesh and earthly glory perishes as does grass (Psalms 103:15).

  1. Even the rich and powerful (Psalms 62:9 and James 1:10-11).
  2. If it is of this world, it will perish (I John 2:15-17).
  3. So, we don’t trust in man (Psalms 146:3-4).
D. Our hope and trust is to be in the declared word of God, the Gospel (Psalms 19:7-11 and Colossians 1:3-6).

  1. His word is tried (Psalms 18:30).
  2. His word doesn’t fail (Isaiah 46:10; Isaiah 55:10-11).
  3. The Gospel, God’s word, saves (Romans 1:16-17).
