First Peter 1:23-25
Rebirth Through The Gospel
I. Introduction:
A. We are going to be talking about being “born again” (John 3:1-7).
- We know there is physical birth and physical death (Ecclesiastes 3:2).
- We will be discussing spiritual birth in this lesson, which is possible because of Jesus (John 1:1-17).
- Being spiritually dead applies to apostate saints too (I Timothy 5:6).
- For further related considerations, see: Matthew 8:21-22, Luke 15:11-24, II Corinthians 5:14-15, and Galatians 4:19
II. Body: I Peter 1:23-25
A. Those addressed in this letter were born again [begotten again] (I Peter 1:3).
- Begotten by the word of God (I Corinthians 4:15 and James 1:18-27).
- This is “the seed” from which we are spiritually born (I John 3:9).
- The seed of man is not eternal (II Samuel 14:14, Job 14:1, and Hebrews 9:27).
- The seed of God, His word, is eternal (Isaiah 40:6-8 and Matthew 24:35).
- Even the rich and powerful (Psalms 62:9 and James 1:10-11).
- If it is of this world, it will perish (I John 2:15-17).
- So, we don’t trust in man (Psalms 146:3-4).
- His word is tried (Psalms 18:30).
- His word doesn’t fail (Isaiah 46:10; Isaiah 55:10-11).
- The Gospel, God’s word, saves (Romans 1:16-17).
