Words Of Truth

"That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth..." (Proverbs 22:21).

A Few Things They Didn’t Like About Jesus

I. Introduction:

A. You would think that everyone would love Jesus because of who and what He is (I John 4:14).

  1. There is no greater love than one laying down His life for His friends (John 15:13).
  2. Yet, He didn’t just die for His friends (Romans 5:6-11).
B. While Jesus represents Judgment (II Timothy 4:1) and condemnation to many (Matthew 25:41; 25:46)…

  1. …He is also the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).
  2. …He is also that blessed hope (Titus 2:13).
  3. …He is also the source of eternal salvation, but what often stands in the way of people loving Him is what they have to do to have salvation of Him (Hebrews 5:8-9).

II. Body: That Generation Rejected Jesus (Luke 17:25)

A. His appearance wasn’t what they wanted in their Savior (Isaiah 53:2).

  1. His appearance was that of a servant (Philippians 2:7).
  2. He didn’t have an earthly palace (Luke 9:57-58).
  3. He didn’t dress like the religious elites or act like them (cf. Luke 20:46; Mark 10:44-45).
B. They didn’t want their hometown boy to be their Lord (Matthew 13:53-58).

  1. They couldn’t see past the physical (John 6:42).
  2. Think of the sad point behind this (Luke 4:24).
C. They didn’t like Him being the light that exposed their darkness (John 3:19-21).

  1. So, they hated Him without just cause (John 15:18-25).
  2. They didn’t want Him exposing them (John 7:7).
  3. He didn’t try to appease them (Luke 11:45-54).
D. He didn’t meet the approval of the “in crowd” (John 7:40-49).

  1. He didn’t hold to their incorrect conclusions (Mark 3:1-6).
  2. He didn’t care that He offended them (Matthew 15:1-14).

III. Conclusion: Jesus being unpopular will never change. Only a few will be saved (Luke 13:23-24). That is telling.
